Turn to me [Lord] and be gracious to me, For I am alone and afflicted.
God makes a home for the lonely; He leads the prisoners into prosperity, Only the stubborn and rebellious dwell in a parched land.
I lay down and slept [safely]; I awakened, for the Lord sustains me.
In peace [and with a tranquil heart] I will both lie down and sleep, For You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety and confident trust.
He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.
It is vain for you to rise early, To retire late, To eat the bread of anxious labors— For He gives [blessings] to His beloved even in his sleep.
When you lie down, you will not be afraid; When you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth Does not become tired or grow weary; There is no searching of His understanding.
He gives strength to the weary, And to him who has no might He increases power.
Even youths grow weary and tired, And vigorous young men stumble badly,
The Lord is good to those who wait [confidently] for Him, To those who seek Him [on the authority of God’s word].
It is good that one waits quietly For the salvation of the Lord.
It is good for a man that he should bear The yoke [of godly discipline] in his youth.
Let him sit alone [in hope] and keep quiet, Because God has laid it on him [for his benefit].
Let him put his mouth in the dust [in recognition of his unworthiness]; There may yet be hope.
